There is Freedom Working from Home
Posted in Business with tags entrepreneur, home business, work at home on November 27, 2009 by stevenlockeI have been working for myself for a long time now, and I think it was one of the best decisions of my life. I mean, there is nothing wrong with setting your own hours, right?
But the catch is that you still need to get the work done, and from that perspective, I can sometimes struggle. Today is a great example of some of the work that I have been doing. You see, I am selecting some Manitoba stock images for a calendar job that I have been contracted to do. Sure, it is fun, but sometimes you get sick of looking at pictures of barns, right?
Needless to say, I wouldn’t be able to have the freedom that I do without my notebook. This has allowed me the ability to stay away from working at a desk which makes this job feel a lot less than work. I love the fact that I can go work outside if it is nice out. Or I can go out for lunch and work at the same time. In fact, if I wanted to, I could work from a different location each and every day. Having this kind of freedom is one of the best reasons that I can think of for working at home.
But it has been a long road to get to this point. I had to spend many years working up the corporate ladder, and putting in long hours. I just about went through divorce a couple of times because of my dedication to my work instead of my family. But it was those sacrifices that I made along the way that has allowed me to do something that I finally love.
I also love the fact that there is some variety as to what I get to do. Some days I might be doing something a little more artistic, the next I might be doing something more analytical – but never the same thing on more than one day. This variety is wonderful. Since my job is the way it is, I would think that it should never be boring.
I also wonder if I will ever retire. I mean, if I can have an income without having to work fulltime and yet I can still make a good income to do the things I love, why would I quit? I just don't understand why so many people my age retire and go get a low paying job – it makes no sense to me. I could never be that kind of person.
So, I should get back to “work” and pick out these pictures. Maybe I will quit work early today and go to a movie. The freedom my work provides is awesome!
